S4 microskiff in camo green for flats fishing

S4 microskiff in camo green (gator green)

A couple pictures of a Wavewalk S4 microskiff power kayak outfitted for flats fishing.

The motor seen here is a 6HP Tohatsu outboard, long shaft (L).

The image below shows a long stand-up paddling (SUP) paddle that can serve for poling too, and a shorter canoe paddle for seated paddling.

Cleats and other deck rigging are useful, and look good, although this ultralight microskiff already features multiple attachment points as it comes form the factory.

Wavewalk S4 microskiff for shallow water fishingThe advantages of this unique design over Jon boats are multiple, including the fact that unlike most Jon boats, it is molded from Polyethylene, which allows it to go in the ocean and in salt marshes without developing any kind of problem that aluminum boats might have in saltwater.

The S4 micro skiff is just 38″ wide, and it features sloping cockpit sides that allow its crew to paddle it both with canoe and kayak paddles. This is not a trivial point if you’re planning to fish in skinny water, and/or in areas where you could find yourself high and dry at low tide.

This microskiff is more seaworthy than Jon boats as well as most micro skiffs, and it can be car toppoed by one person.

In sum, flats fishing is great but it is also extremely challenging, and in view of this fact, the S4 is the best solution available today, whether you fish solo or in tandem.

A microskiff like no other

S4 seaworthy microskiff for offshore fishing, Hawaii

Typically, a microskiff (micro skiff) is a small size, flat-bottomed boat designed to carry two to three anglers on board in flat water fishing trips. Microskiffs are not associated with offshore fishing, or seaworthiness.

But the S4, despite being the most lightweight and portable of all microskiffs, is different in the sense that it’s also a seaworthy boat that stability wise offers performance comparable to those wide inflatable dinghies, while being considerably more comfortable.

One such S4 is the microskiff that Terry Wilkison fishes from in the Pacific ocean around the island of O’ahu, Hawaii. And by the way, before he got an S4, Terry used to fish from a wide inflatable dinghy.

Terry’s S4 is propelled by a 5 HP outboard motor equipped with an alternator that provides electric power to a lighting system and two small bilge pumps – If you go in big ocean waves, and in the dark, you have to be well prepared.

Terry also outfitted his S4 microskiff with a swivel seat, and a rod rack for four fishing poles.

Terry fishes solo from his microskiff, buy he could easily take a fishing buddy on board, if he wanted, since despite its light weight and small size, the S4 is not a solo skiff.

And this short movie shows what it’s like to drive Terry’s S4 in the ocean:

A new look at the super micro skiff

People who watch videos showing the Wavewalk S4 micro skiff in action have no problem realizing that it raises the bar in performance terms, beyond anything that small skiffs, Jon boats and fishing kayaks can. However, some people find it harder to understand how the S4 is built, and this is not surprising, since the S4 is unique, and revolutionary.

Recently, Wavewalk released this new technical figure (see above) that describes the S4 visually, in detail. In itself, this figure isn’t enough to provide a full understanding of all the aspects of the S4’s technical innovations, unique features, and high performance in multiple applications, but it can serve as an additional means to get a better insight.

Note the slanted sides of the cockpit that enhance performance in kayaking and canoeing, and the front deck that can serve as a stand up casting platform, which is a feature typical to microskiffs.

Also, it’s worth noting the integrated (molded-in) pairs of carry handles (total of 4) at the bow and stern, which make it so easy to carry this ultralight microskiff, as well as attach it to a vehicle or a dock, or to another boat.

Looking at the animated slideshow featuring on this website’s header is another good means for getting an instant snapshot of the Wavewalk S4 unrivaled capabilities, but eventually, learning about these things is best done by watching movies.
